Reading Attitudes of Fourth Year English as a Foreign Language Students

The present exploratory study sought to identify the attitudes towards reading for pleasure of a group fourth year English as Foreign Language (EFL) majors after taking mandatory literature courses. A total 45 students from School Modern Languages at public university in San José, Costa Rica participated this investigation. In order elicit participants’ and motivations both before entering university, an online survey was administered. results showed that almost half participants kept good habits, apart readings. Main findings also reveal main pre-university motivators suffered change university. Although personal enjoyment relaxation were maintained, related general improvement language skills obtained higher relevance students. answers suggested literary works read class play important role students’ voluntary practices. Practical implications are discussed.
